Sgt. Mathew Breihan - SRO/DARE Coordinator
Hello, my name is Sergeant Matt Breihan and I have been part of the Edwardsville Police Department since August of 2002. Prior to my career as a law enforcement officer, I attended Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
My career with the Edwardsville Police Department began with my training at the Illinois State Police Academy in Springfield Illinois. During my career as a law enforcement officer I have served different functions within the department such as: Field Training Officer, Crisis Intervention Officer, Crime Scene Technician, Firearms Trainer, and Police Explorer Advisor.
In 2014, I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, where I supervised patrol officers in their daily activities. After my promotion, I attended Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command School. After graduating from the program, I successfully started the Edwardsville Police Departments first Citizen’s Police Academy. This program educates the citizens of our city on the different law enforcement functions to help them understand what we do as Police Officers.
In October of 2016, I assumed the role of the School Resource Officer/DARE Coordinator. As the SRO/DARE Coordinator, I supervise the SRO/DARE Officers and act as a liaison between the Edwardsville School District and the Edwardsville Police Department.
