Sgt. Mathew Breihan - SRO/DARE Coordinator

Hello, my name is Sergeant Matt Breihan and I have been part of the Edwardsville Police Department since August of 2002. Prior to my career as a law enforcement officer, I attended Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville and obtained a Bachelor of14BriehanSmall Science degree in Business Administration.

My career with the Edwardsville Police Department began with my training at the Illinois State Police Academy in Springfield Illinois. During my career as a law enforcement officer I have served different functions within the department such as: Field Training Officer, Crisis Intervention Officer, Crime Scene Technician, Firearms Trainer, and Police Explorer Advisor. 

In 2014, I was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, where I supervised patrol officers in their daily activities.  After my promotion, I attended Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command School.  After graduating from the program, I successfully started the Edwardsville Police Departments first Citizen’s Police Academy.  This program educates the citizens of our city on the different law enforcement functions to help them understand what we do as Police Officers. 

In October of 2016, I assumed the role of the School Resource Officer/DARE Coordinator.  As the SRO/DARE Coordinator, I supervise the SRO/DARE Officers and act as a liaison between the Edwardsville School District and the Edwardsville Police Department.

Officer Rick Thompson-Edwardsville High School SRO

14ThompsonSmallMy name is Officer Rick Thompson and I have been employed as a police officer for the City of Edwardsville since January 2007. During my law enforcement career I have served as a Patrol Officer, Ward and Beat Officer as part of the departments Community Oriented Policing Program, and now my newest assignment as the School Resource /D.A.R.E. Officer for Liberty Middle School.

I am a 2002 graduate of Edwardsville High School and continued my education at Lewis and Clark and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. I received my Law Enforcement Training at the SWIC in Belleville, IL. I have also received specialized training as a Juvenile Officer and Crisis Intervention Officer.

Officer Barb Frolik-Lincoln Middle School SRO & Youth Academy Coordinator

I am Officer Barb Frolik and I am the School Resource/D.A.R.E. Officer currently assigned to Lincoln Middle School. I am an Edwardsville native and Edwardsville High School graduate. I have been employed as a police officer with the City of Edwardsville since 1998. Prior to my employment with the City of Edwardsville,  I was employed a police officer with the City of St. Louis. 

During the course of my law enforcement career I have been involved in various aspects of the law enforcement field which range from being a patrol officer, detective and violent crimes task force officer. Prior to assuming the position as an SRO, I attended specialized School Resource Officer training, which instructs officers to perform three primary roles as an SRO; law enforcement officer, informal counselor/mentor, available for classroom instruction in law related education, safety programs, alcohol and drug prevention. I also attended and successfully completed training to become a certified D.A.R.E. classroom instructor. 

As an SRO at Lincoln Middle School, I am assigned to Lincoln Middle School and I will be a visible active law enforcement figure at Lincoln Middle School. My goal is to foster a positive relationship and maintain a safe learning environment with the students, staff and parents of Lincoln Middle School. In addition to working hand and hand with the faculty and District 7 Administration to solve or prevent any problems in the school community.

Officer Joy Davis - Liberty Middle School SRO

Hello, my name is Officer Joy Davis and I have been employed as a police officer for the City of Edwardsville sinc13DavisSmalle 1997.  During my law enforcement career I have served as a Patrol Officer, Bicycle Officer, Ward Officer, P.A.C.T. Camp Instructor, and Youth Academy Instructor.  I served 11 years as the School Resource Officer and DARE officer at Lincoln Middle School and now have the privilege to serve as the School Resource Officer and DARE Officer at Liberty Middle School.

My undergraduate work was done at Joliet Junior College, Western Illinois University, and American Public University and I hold a Bacehlors Degree in Criminal Justice. I received my Law Enforcement Training at the Police Training Institute in Champaign, Illinois and have also received special training as an Illinois Juvenile Officer and as a Dare Officer, in addition to the specialized training needed to be a School Resource Officer (SRO).

As an SRO/DARE officer specifically assigned to a school, I serve three roles: law enforcement officer; law-related counselor; and law-related & antidrug education teacher.  I am a visible active law enforcement figure on campus dealing with any law-related issues and available as a classroom resource for instruction in law related education, violence diffusion, safety programs, alcohol and drug prevention, crime prevention and other areas.
